Daylight can help the release of serotonin, a hormone that makes us feel happy. It is also a substance that is essential to produce melatonin, the hormone that helps to regulate our circadian rhythm. A better mood and better sleep – well that is a good recipe for energy!

Most people will recognise that they function better at certain times within the day. Where possible try and match the toughest tasks to these times and if this is not possible and you have to take on a curve ball during your daily dip then think how you can counter this – day light, hydration and nutrition can all help.

Regular exercise boosts the delivery of oxygen around the body and can enhance alertness, strength and endurance (Melone, Health, 2017). Other studies show that taking some time out to do exercise during your workday can increase productivity. Essentially, physical exercise during the day can increase your productivity enough to counteract the time away from the office and of course it promotes your health. WIN-WIN!
